Uruguay: 1866 (28th September) entire from Montevideo to New York, posted unpaid, routed via Europe to avoid Civil War blockades, carried by “Arno” sailing 29th September, transferred to “Oneida” sailing on 10th October for Southampton arriving 3rd November. The letter was sent to London where manuscript “24” British claim applied, returned to Southampton for North German Lloyd “Bremen”. A charge of ’45’ cents was raised, in depreciated currency ’61’ censts.
