Cover from the HMS Royal Oak which as on patrol off the north coast off Spain at St. Jean de Luz to Canada franked with French stamps and tied by dispatch datestamp and oval COMMANDER * H.M.S. “ROYAL OAK” dated hand cachet. The British role in the Spanish Civil War was a minor one, in which unites of the Royal Navy participated in the international blockade of Spain designed to prevent the seaborne inflow of weapons.
