1923 Armenia Erivan Iğdır Turkey Registered Label to USA

Armenia: 1923 (15 September). Registered cover to United States franked with 200,000 on 4000r Transcaucasian Roubles in violet tied by Erivan datestamp, also repeated on front and 11 October New York arrival cds’s. One stamp fallen. Registration label of IGDIR (Turkey) was prepared to be used by Armenians but they never fully controlled the area. So this label was taken when they withdrew from the region and re-used by crossing out the name. Despite a missing stamp, this is a very rare, probably unique usage of the Iğdır registration label.

Travel to Russian Armenia, published 1893 by Librairie Hachette, Paris, half calf gilded strong bounding, generally very good condition. Famous archaeologist Ernest Chantre who is a specialist in Bronze Age, accompanied with her husband travel through there and published this important anthropological work. Over 150 small gravures.
