1921 Ain-Tab Local 1pi on Ottoman 20pa Used

Syria: 1921 (7 July) Ain-Tab issue surcharged in black with O.M.F. Syrie 1 PIASTRE on Ottoman 20pa of 1917 issue. Cancelled by pen. This issue authorised by the District Governor of Ain-Tab for mail to Aleppo and locally and were in use until 27 August 1921. Though Ain-Tab (now Gaziantep) was in Cilicia, 20 miles north of the Syrian border, in an area where French troops were fighting the Turkish Nationalists, the stamps were overprinted ‘Syrie’. SG 68g
