Syria: 1921 (7 July) Ain Tab local issue with violet-blue handstamp O.M.F. Syrie 2 PIASTRES on 1pi Ottoman stamp fine used with part TRESEOR ET POSTES French military cancel. Violet-blue stamp exist with carmine opt on black recorded by Kaczmarczyk’s book page 114. This issue authorised by the District Governor of Ain-Tab for mail to Aleppo and locally and were in use until 27 August 1921. Though Ain-Tab (now Gaziantep) was in Cilicia, 20 miles north of the Syrian border, in an area where French troops were fighting the Turkish Nationalists, the stamps were overprinted ‘Syrie’.
