The author recounts her brief unpleasant stay in Shahraban [Iraq], where her husband, Captain E.L. Buchanan, was a military supervisor of irrigation projects. After a few months, on August 13th, 1920, a Bedouin uprising took over the town, killing her husband and four other Englishmen; she remained captive for about three weeks thereafter until Sharaban was reclaimed by a British relief force from Baghdad.
