1921 Turkey USS Scorpion to USA Postcard

Turkey – USA: 1921 (15 November). Istanbul photocard to United States franked with 1c and tied by USS SCORPION  TURKEY datestamp. USS Scorpion, a converted yacht, was serving at that time in the Black Sea escorting American grain ships to Russian Black Sea ports during a prolonged drought in Russia. Later in September 1922 was helping to evacuate Greek refugees from Izmir. USS Scorpion served in various Turkish ports between 1908 and 1923
