China: 1936 (12.2.) much delayed airmail cover from Shanghai to England, endorsed “Via Hanoi” with adhesives tied bilingual cds, Canton propellor cancel of 14.2., the plane reached Fort Bayard but could not travel on to Hanoi so returned to Canton on 17th, at bottom right reddish pink handstamp ‘DELAYED BY ADVERSE WEATHER, REFORWARDED ON 21.2.36’ the plane was again delayed by weather and a new’28’ overprinting violet amended date, the plane was further delayed by a commercial dispute between airline companies, eventually violet four-line chops applied ‘Air Mail Service Postponed/ Forwarded By Steamer to/ Singapore For Onward Trans/ Mission by Air, Marseille airmail cds of 16 NO and Paris arrival of following day, a journey of over nine months.
