1986 Turkish Cyprus to East Germany Illegal Stamps Cover

Turkish Cyprus: 1986 registered philatelic cover to East Germany franked with Turkish Cyprus stamps tied by Lefkosa (Nicosia) datestamps. Considered as illegal use and blacked out by the receiving country with two line Illegale / Wertzeichen (illegal stamps) hand cachet and return to sender with ‘retour’ and ‘Inconnu’ hand stamps. Received 6 June Lefkosa arrival cds.
Usage of Turkish Cyprus stamps not recognised by the UPU declared mail should be ‘return to the sender’. However some countries ignored this ruling and refused to accept mail for delivery and either ‘blacked out’ the stamps of applied a cachet and returned the mail.
